Objective

By the end of the lesson students will be able to identify and use adverbs of frequency correctly in sentences and talk about how often they do everyday activities.

Warm-Up (5 min)

Ask: How often do you eat breakfast? / How often do you play sports? Gather short answers (every day, sometimes, never) and introduce Adverbs of Frequency.

Adverbs of frequency tell how often we do something.

Grammar Rules

  1. Position: Adverbs of frequency usually go before the main verb: I often play football.
  2. With to be: Place the adverb after the verb to be: She is always late.
  3. Questions: How often do you go to school?

Practice

A. Fill in the blanks

Use: always / usually / sometimes / rarely / never

  1. I eat breakfast before school.
  2. She goes shopping on weekends.
  3. We watch movies on Friday nights.
  4. He eats vegetables — he hates them!
  5. They are late for class.

B. Correct the mistakes

  1. I go always to bed at 10. → Correct: I always go to bed at 10.
  2. He is never tired hardly. → Correct: He is hardly ever tired. / He is never tired.
  3. My mother cooks usually dinner. → Correct: My mother usually cooks dinner.
  4. They never are happy. → Correct: They are never happy.

Speaking Activity (10 min)

Pairs ask and answer: How often do you…?

• watch TV?
• do your homework?
• play sports?
• eat out?
• use your phone?

Encourage full-sentence answers: I usually watch TV in the evening.

Writing Task (5 min)

Write 5 sentences about your weekly habits using different adverbs of frequency.
